10 Rainy Day Date Ideas (That Don’t Involve Netflix)

Had a fun outdoor date with your boo planned but the thunderclouds had other things in mind? Well never fear, there are many fun activities that can be done indoors that can be just as exciting if not more exciting!

1) Go to an arcade

Call me a nerd, but going to an arcade is one of my favorite date activities of all time! Spend some time together at your local Round1, Dave and Buster’s, or even Boomers and you might be surprised how much fun you can have! Whether its reminiscing about certain childhood games or competing with each other to see who can get the higher score, going to an arcade can unlock your playful side and allow you to potentially see another side of your partner’s personality.

2) Go ice skating or roller skating

For some reason, whenever the weather is cold, I have the urge to go ice skating. Maybe it’s because I live in sunny southern California, and whenever I spend the day inside, I get the biggest FOMO that I’m missing out on the gorgeous weather outside. But when it’s cold, wet, or dreary, I crave ice skating and capitalizing on the coldness! There’s nothing better than that crisp cold air that will rejuvenate you and energize you and your partner! And if you’re really that cold, well, all the more of an excuse to cuddle up. Not to mention you have an excuse to hang onto each other whether you’re ice skating OR roller skating. Trying something new together unlocks everyone’s playful side and you’ll be sure to have lots of laughs.

3) Complete an escape room together

You’ll be sure to learn more about your partner’s intellect and problem solving skills when it comes down to solving an escape room together! There’s something really hot about knowing that you could make it out alive together with your impeccable teamwork. And even if you don’t beat the escape room, at least you’ll have fun in the process!

4) Go to an aquarium

Doesn’t looking at all those enormous tanks of colorful fishes and large sharks just fill you with a sense of wonder? Going to an aquarium can be a more easygoing date that can be fun in all stages of a relationship, even early on! You can find somewhere to sit and have a conversation while being surrounded by beautiful aquatic life. And when you’re ready to move on, you can simply continue to explore the other parts of the aquarium.

5) Go to IKEA

OK, hold on, before you call me crazy, hear me out. There are several reasons why I think going to IKEA is a great date, especially if you’re still in the stages of getting to know someone. First of all, when people see furniture, they think of “home”, they might think of what they want when they settle down, or perhaps even the idea of *gasp* living together! You can learn a lot about your date’s lifestyle and also potentially some personal habits. Whether or not IKEA fits your personal aesthetic tastes, there is something in IKEA for everyone. The store also is long and windy with few shortcuts, so you’ll have plenty of time to converse and wander with your date. And at the end of your trek, you can celebrate with some Swedish meatballs and soft serve at the cafeteria!

6) Check out a local museum

Do you both like art? Are you both history buffs? There’s a museum for everyone out there. Take advantage of your local museum “free days” or discounted days and see what your community offers. Not only is it a great way to support your community, but you can also potentially explore a shared interest with your partner!

7) Visit a new wine bar or local brewery

Rainy or overcast days are perfect for checking out your local wine bar or local brewery. I personally love smaller bars and breweries because I like supporting small businesses. The drinks will get you guys talking and you’ll likely have plenty of places to sit and chat. You can split a tasting flight or even order some appetizers to share!

8) Invite over for a board or card game

Netflix and chill isn’t the only thing that can be done indoors! Let’s go “old school” and play a board game or a card game. This article has a couple of suggestions for board games that are good for two. But who said friends can’t join in on the fun too? There are also several card games out there that geared towards learning more about each other for for instigating deeper conversations. Look here if you’re interested in some of those examples!

9) Check out your local stand-up comedy show or concert

Who doesn’t love a stand-up comedy segment or some good music? Discover what you and your date might have in comment as well as supporting local or smaller artists. Not to mention laughter releases endorphins, those “feel good” hormones, overall leaving you feeling good and hopefully more relaxed your boo. Got different music tastes? Don’t be afraid to venture out and take turns introducing each other to different bands you like.

10) Cook a meal together

Participate in a cooking class or invite your date over to recreate a recipe! I think cooking together is one of the best ways to spend time together. You can see how you well you work as a team and then reward yourselves with a great meal afterwards! If cooking at home, feel free to enjoy yourselves and take your time. Open a bottle of wine (but don’t get too carried away!), enjoy a free breaks in between certain steps for a little bit of conversation, a little bit of kitchen dancing. Make it a fun experience, and who knows? Maybe something even hotter awaits after dinner…

There are so many options for indoor dates and these are just a few! So don’t be down if the weather changes your plans, there are endless possibilities to enjoy time together with your partner! And who knows? You may discover something new about each other, and now have new memories to look back on.
